The island you can cross in an hour
Prince Edward Island books chauffeurs for a capital that fits its business into a few downtown blocks, for an airport ten minutes from them, for a cruise season and a summer that triple the population, for the Confederation Bridge that is the island's road to the mainland, and for the golf, the beaches and the Anne of Green Gables country that visitors come for. No city here has its own page yet; Charlottetown, Stratford, Cornwall, Summerside, Cavendish, Souris, Montague and every other address on the island price on the engine to the same standard. This page is the map: the airport, the bridge and the ferry, the corridors, the seasons, the sectors, the occasions and the provincial rules.

The airport, the bridge and the ferry
Charlottetown's airport is five kilometres north of downtown and ten minutes from any hotel in it; the Confederation Bridge - thirteen kilometres, twelve minutes, a toll charged on leaving the island - is the road link to New Brunswick and the mainland airports at Moncton and Halifax; the Wood Islands ferry to Caribou, Nova Scotia, runs from May to December and is the scenic alternative. A chauffeured transfer from the Moncton or Halifax airport to the island is a fixed fare with the bridge toll at cost, and the airports page lists all three.
The corridors
| Corridor | Approx. km | Off-peak hours | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Charlottetown airport (YYG) - downtown | 5 | 0.2 | the island's most-booked transfer |
| Charlottetown - Cavendish / Green Gables | 40 | 0.6 | Route 13; Anne country |
| Charlottetown - Brackley / Stanhope beaches | 20 | 0.4 | Route 15; the national park |
| Charlottetown - Summerside | 60 | 0.75 | Route 1 + 2 |
| Charlottetown - Confederation Bridge (Borden) | 55 | 0.7 | Route 1; toll leaving the island |
| Charlottetown - Wood Islands ferry | 60 | 0.75 | Route 1 east; seasonal |
| Charlottetown - Souris (Magdalen Islands ferry) | 80 | 1 | Route 2 east |
| Charlottetown - East Point / Basin Head | 100 | 1.25 | Route 2 + 16; Points East drive |
| Charlottetown - North Cape | 150 | 1.75 | Route 2 west; the wind farm |
| Charlottetown - Moncton airport (YQM) | 170 | 1.9 | bridge + Route 15 |
| Charlottetown - Halifax airport (YHZ) | 300 | 3.25 | bridge + 104 + 102 |
| Charlottetown - Halifax downtown | 320 | 3.5 | bridge + 104; Cobequid Pass toll |
Figures are approximate; the engine prices the exact address. The bridge and the Cobequid Pass tolls are added at cost where the route uses them.
The seasons
From June to September the island is full: the cruise ships at the Charlottetown port, the Cavendish beaches, the golf courses, the Anne musical at the Confederation Centre, the lobster suppers, the Old Home Week harness races in August and the Shellfish Festival in September; the cars are booked a month ahead and the hourly chauffeur is the island's most-used service. From November to April the island is quiet and the bridge is the weather's only variable: high winds close it to high-sided vehicles a few days a season and every vehicle in the fleet runs winter tyres for the red-clay roads' freeze-thaw. PEI 511 is what dispatch reads before every bridge crossing.
The cruise season
The Charlottetown port lands a ship most days from May to October, and a cruise passenger's day - Cavendish and Green Gables in four hours, the north-shore beaches and a lobster lunch in five, the Points East lighthouses in six - is priced by the hour with the ship's all-aboard built in and the chauffeur's return to the pier guaranteed; the busiest days are booked a month ahead.
The sectors that book the corporate account
The provincial government at Province House and the Coles Building, the bioscience cluster and the University of Prince Edward Island, the Veterans Affairs headquarters, the aerospace companies at Slemon Park in Summerside, the potato and seafood processors, the golf-resort and hotel groups: the corporate account's one monthly invoice covers the YYG transfer, the Moncton-airport run and the Summerside day.
The occasions
The Cavendish beach weddings, the Charlottetown church-and-hotel weddings, the golf-resort weddings at Crowbush and Brudenell, the June proms across the island's schools, the Islanders' hockey, the Old Home Week races, the Festival of Small Halls, the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in July and the Shellfish Festival: the wedding, prom, sporting events and nights out pages cover each, and the Cavendish Beach festival weekend is booked in the spring.
The golf
The island has more golf courses per capita than any province - the Links at Crowbush Cove, Dundarave and Brudenell River, Green Gables, Mill River, Glasgow Hills, Fox Meadow - and a golf group's week is the hourly chauffeur's summer business: a Sprinter for the foursomes and the clubs, the morning tee time and the evening lobster supper, one plan and one invoice. The travel desk books the resort.
The rules a passenger might want to know
Chauffeurs hold the province's Class 4 licence for taxis, limousines and small buses and the vehicles carry commercial passenger insurance; the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission licenses the operators. Winter tyres are not required by law but every vehicle in the fleet runs them. Child restraints are required by the Highway Traffic Act until the child is ten or 145 centimetres, and the chauffeur fits the seat at no charge when it is noted at booking. The drinking age is nineteen and alcohol in a vehicle is permitted only in a licensed limousine with a partition, for passengers of age.
What a limo costs on Prince Edward Island
Fixed by the addresses and the vehicle class, shown before you book. YYG to downtown Charlottetown in an Executive Sedan is the island's most-booked transfer and among the shortest and lowest on this site; Cavendish, the beaches and the Points East drive are fixed fares or hourly days with the return built in; the Moncton and Halifax airport runs are fixed fares with the bridge toll at cost; the wedding, the cruise day and the golf week are priced by the hour with a minimum. No surge on a cruise morning, no meter, no gratuity added. The fleet page has the capacities.
The mainland and the region
Moncton's airport in under two hours and Halifax's in three and a quarter are the island's long-haul gateways, and the city-to-city service prices both as fixed fares with the return built in; the New Brunswick and Nova Scotia pages cover the far ends, and the cross-border service reaches Maine through New Brunswick's crossings.
Two questions Island travellers ask the desk
Fly to Charlottetown or to Moncton? Charlottetown when the schedule allows - ten minutes to the hotel; Moncton when the fares or the times are better, with the two-hour transfer and the bridge toll at cost. Can we do Green Gables and the beach on a cruise day? Yes, in four to five hours by the hour with the all-aboard built in. A third, asked every May: the Cavendish Beach Music Festival and Old Home Week fill the island's cars a month ahead.

Booking notes by vehicle class on Prince Edward Island
The Executive Sedan is the YYG-to-downtown car and the Moncton and Halifax airport car; the Premium Sedan is the Province House and Confederation Centre choice; the Luxury SUV is the north-shore, Points East and winter-bridge vehicle; the Executive Sprinter carries the wedding party, the golf foursomes and their clubs, the cruise group and the family's beach week; the Stretch Limousine is the prom and wedding car and the only vehicle in which the province's alcohol rule permits a glass; the Minicoach is the corporate shuttle and the cruise-day vehicle for twenty. The fleet page has the capacities and the booking page prices each class against the address.
Three Island itineraries the desk builds most often
The golf week. Moncton or Charlottetown airport pickup in a Sprinter with the foursomes and the clubs, the resort at Crowbush or Brudenell, the morning tee times and the evening lobster suppers by the hour through the week, and the return - one plan, one invoice, and the hourly chauffeur page has the rate.
The cruise-day Anne country. Port pickup at nine with the all-aboard noted, Route 13 to Cavendish in forty minutes, Green Gables and the north-shore beaches with the chauffeur waiting, a lobster lunch at New Glasgow, and the pier by two - five hours by the hour, and the Nova Scotia page covers the Halifax call on the same voyage.
The Halifax-airport-to-Cavendish family transfer. YHZ pickup with the flight tracked, the 102, the 104 and the Confederation Bridge in three and a quarter hours in an SUV with the week's luggage, the cottage at Cavendish by evening, and the return with the bridge toll at cost - one fixed fare each way, and the Halifax airport page covers the terminal.
The Island numbers a traveller might want
Prince Edward Island is home to roughly one hundred and seventy thousand people, the smallest province by population and area; Charlottetown's airport handled close to four hundred thousand passengers in its last full year and the port close to a hundred cruise calls; the Confederation Bridge is twelve point nine kilometres long, the longest bridge over ice-covered water in the world, and its toll is charged only on leaving the island; and the island has more than thirty golf courses for its size, the highest density in the country. The Confederation Bridge, the Charlottetown Airport Authority and Tourism PEI publish the figures.
Prince Edward Island: questions answered
Which PEI towns do you serve?
Charlottetown, Stratford, Cornwall, Summerside, Cavendish, Souris, Montague and every other address on the island, all on the same engine to the same standard.
How long is Charlottetown airport to downtown?
About ten minutes - five kilometres - one fixed fare with thirty minutes of waiting on a domestic arrival.
Can you collect us at Moncton or Halifax airport and bring us to the island?
Yes - Moncton in under two hours and Halifax in three and a quarter, as fixed fares with the return built in and the Confederation Bridge toll at cost.
Is the bridge toll included?
It is added at cost and shown at booking; the toll is charged on leaving the island, so an inbound transfer carries none.
Can you take cruise passengers to Green Gables or the beaches?
Yes - by the hour with the ship's all-aboard built in and the return to the pier guaranteed; Cavendish in four hours, the north shore and a lobster lunch in five.
Do you do golf groups?
Yes - a Sprinter for the foursomes and the clubs, the tee times and the evening supper, one plan and one invoice; the travel desk books the resort.
What is the drinking age and can we drink in the limo?
Nineteen. Alcohol in a vehicle is permitted only in a licensed limousine with a partition, for passengers of age; not in a sedan, SUV or Sprinter.
Are winter tyres fitted?
Yes - not required by PEI law, but every vehicle in the fleet runs them for the red-clay roads' freeze-thaw, and PEI 511 is read before every bridge crossing.
