An island airport with three arrival points
Vancouver International sits on Sea Island in the Fraser delta, thirteen kilometres from downtown, and it is the country's second-busiest airport and its gateway to Asia and the Pacific. Its ground transportation is organised around a main terminal with separate domestic and international arrivals halls, a South Terminal across the airport for the floatplanes and the small regional carriers, the Canada Line train to downtown, a taxi rank, ride-app zones, and the pre-arranged commercial curb where a chauffeur booked in advance waits with your name on a phone and a fixed fare on the confirmation. This page is about that last option - where it is at each hall, how it works, what it costs to the addresses people book most, and when the train is the better choice. The airport transfers page covers the service in general; the Vancouver and Victoria pages cover the cities.

The domestic hall, the international hall and the South Terminal
The main terminal's international arrivals hall handles flights from Asia, Europe, Mexico and the rest of the world: the CBSA hall with its kiosks and officers, the international carousels, and the doors into the public arrivals area. US flights arrive at the international side too, having pre-cleared in the United States, and their bags come to the domestic carousels with no inspection. The domestic hall at the other end of the terminal handles the Calgary, Toronto, Kelowna and Victoria flights with a short walk from any carousel to the curb. The South Terminal across the airport - a ten-minute drive - handles Harbour Air's and the other floatplane operators' flights to the islands and the small regional carriers to the interior; the chauffeur meets you at its door.
The pre-arranged limousine and car-service curb is on the arrivals level of the main terminal, signed separately from the taxi rank and the ride-app zones, and the chauffeur's text names the hall to exit from and the curb. With meet and greet added, the chauffeur is inside the hall at the customs exit with a name board. Sixty minutes of waiting are included from the aircraft's landing time on an international arrival, thirty on a domestic or US pre-cleared one. The Vancouver Airport Authority publishes the ground-transportation layout at yvr.ca.
Departures
The chauffeur is at your door at the time the engine suggests, worked back from the flight: three hours for international and Asia, two for domestic and US, plus the drive at that hour over the Arthur Laing or Oak Street bridge, plus a margin for a Friday afternoon or a snowfall. The drop is at the departures curb by the airline's check-in, which the chauffeur knows; the international and US check-ins are at the international end.

Whistler from the airport
The Sea-to-Sky Highway from Horseshoe Bay along Howe Sound through Squamish to Whistler is a hundred and twenty kilometres and two hours from YVR, and the airport-to-resort transfer in a Luxury SUV with the skis in the back is the booking this airport is known for. It is priced as one fixed fare with the return built in on the city-to-city service; the chauffeur reads DriveBC for avalanche-control closures before every departure and again at Squamish; the return to YVR on the Sunday with the flight number on the booking is where the tracking earns its keep. A Sprinter takes a ski group of fourteen. The British Columbia page carries the seasonal notes.
The vehicle for YVR
The luggage decides it, and Asia-Pacific arrivals carry more of it: an Executive Sedan takes three passengers with two large cases and two carry-ons; a family from Hong Kong with six bags and a stroller needs the Luxury SUV, booked with the booster seat noted; a tour group or a ski party of fourteen is cheaper per seat in an Executive Sprinter. The fleet page has the capacities, and the engine enforces them so the car that arrives can take what you have.
YVR's other options, honestly
The Canada Line runs from the terminal to Waterfront Station downtown in about twenty-six minutes, with a station under the airport, and for a single traveller with a carry-on bound for a downtown hotel it is fast and cheap; the walk from Waterfront to the hotel, the stairs with luggage, and the Richmond-bound platform confusion are the costs. The taxi rank is a licensed, metered service with a queue on cruise-turnaround mornings and no flight tracking. The ride-app zones are on the airport with pickup limited to licensed providers, the fare estimated and subject to surge on the arrival waves, and the car whatever accepted the ride. The pre-arranged chauffeur is the option for the group, the luggage, the North Shore, Whistler, the fixed time and the company account; the comparison page sets them side by side.
Meet and greet at YVR
Curbside pickup at the pre-arranged area is included. Meet and greet - the chauffeur inside the hall at the customs exit with a name board - is the add-on, and at YVR it is the right choice for a first arrival from Asia after a fourteen-hour flight, an elderly parent, an unaccompanied minor, a client the company is hosting, or anyone whose English is not yet comfortable; chauffeurs who speak Mandarin, Cantonese and Punjabi are available on request in the booking notes.
Cruise passengers
From May to September the Alaska ships turn around at Canada Place downtown, and the transfer between YVR and the pier with the ship's schedule and the flight number on the booking is the summer's most-booked run - to a downtown hotel the night before the ship, or straight to the pier on the morning; the Port of Vancouver publishes the schedule. Passengers whose ship sails from Seattle book the cross-border service to Pier 91.
Delays, diversions and the weather
The flight number is watched from departure; an early landing brings the chauffeur early and a delay moves the pickup. Fog closes YVR some autumn mornings and the two or three snowfalls each winter close everything for a day; a diversion to Abbotsford or Kelowna brings a call from dispatch and, where the roads allow, a chauffeur at the new field. The engine's suggested pickup for a winter departure adds the margin.
Airport hotels and the early flight
The Fairmont Vancouver Airport inside the terminal - the only hotel in the country you can walk to from the gate - and the cluster in Richmond five minutes away are the answer to the 6 am departure and the midnight arrival; the travel desk books the room and the short fixed fare to the terminal is the morning's booking.
Corporate accounts at YVR
The port, the film industry, the Asia-Pacific board meeting and the tech companies downtown set the account's profiles with the international or domestic hall as the airline dictates, the hotel or the office as the default drop, meet and greet as a standing default for guests, and one monthly invoice. The corporate page covers the setup.
Two things YVR passengers ask the desk most
Domestic or international hall? The airline's confirmation says which; a US flight is international at YVR because it pre-cleared in the United States and the bags come to the domestic carousels - the chauffeur's text names the hall to exit from and it is never a long walk. Can we go straight to Whistler from the aircraft? Yes; the Luxury SUV waits at the pre-arranged curb with the ski rack ready, the Sea-to-Sky is two hours, and a stop in Squamish for groceries is inside the fare. A third, asked every May: the cruise-turnaround mornings sell every chauffeured car at the airport by 7 am and the ship's schedule should be on the booking the week before.
The Fraser bridges, in one paragraph
Every YVR transfer crosses the Fraser's north arm on the Arthur Laing or the Oak Street bridge, and which one the chauffeur takes depends on the destination and the hour: the Arthur Laing feeds Granville Street and the downtown core, the Oak Street feeds the Cambie corridor and the eastern neighbourhoods, and both back up at 5 pm on a Friday. The Knight Street bridge is the Burnaby route and the Highway 99 tunnel the Delta and ferry route; the chauffeur's choice is invisible to the passenger and the fare is the same whichever is used.
Richmond's airport hotels and the early flight, in detail
The Fairmont inside the terminal is the obvious answer to a 6 am departure, and the Richmond cluster five minutes away - the Marriott, the Sheraton, the Hilton, the Westin Wall Centre, the Pacific Gateway - is the value answer; a chauffeur from a downtown or North Shore address to a Richmond hotel at 9 pm and a ten-minute fixed fare to the terminal at 4:15 am is the two-booking pattern for the family that will not risk the Lions Gate in a snowfall. Richmond's night market in summer and its dim sum at any hour are the reason the evening is not wasted.
Vancouver YVR: questions answered
Where does the chauffeur meet me at YVR?
At the pre-arranged limousine and car-service curb on the arrivals level of the main terminal, signed separately from the taxi rank and the ride-app zones, texted with the plate before landing; at the South Terminal's door for floatplane and regional arrivals. With meet and greet added, inside the international or domestic hall with a name board.
How long will the chauffeur wait at YVR?
Sixty minutes from landing on an international arrival and thirty on a domestic or US pre-cleared one, before any waiting charge applies; sixty covers customs and the carousel on a full Asia wave.
How much is a limo from YVR to downtown Vancouver?
A fixed fare by vehicle class for your exact address, shown by the engine in seconds; the Executive Sedan is the most-booked class for the thirteen-kilometre run. No surge, no meter, no gratuity added.
Do you drive from YVR to Whistler?
Yes - about two hours up the Sea-to-Sky in a Luxury SUV with the skis in the back, one fixed fare with the return built in; DriveBC is read before every departure for avalanche-control closures.
Is the Canada Line better than a chauffeur?
For one traveller with a carry-on bound for a downtown hotel, often yes - twenty-six minutes to Waterfront. For a group, luggage, the North Shore, Whistler, a fixed time or a company account, the chauffeur.
Can you meet a floatplane at the South Terminal?
Yes - the chauffeur meets you at the South Terminal's door across the airport, with the flight on the booking.
Are Mandarin, Cantonese or Punjabi-speaking chauffeurs available?
Yes, on request in the booking notes, subject to availability; meet and greet with a name board is the usual pairing for a first arrival.
Do you pick up cruise passengers at Canada Place?
Yes - the transfer between YVR and the pier with the ship's schedule on the booking is the summer's most-booked run, and the pier's pre-arranged pickup is on the roof deck.
