The northern capital
Edmonton is the most northerly of Canada's big cities and its chauffeur market reflects it: an airport that is a long way out of town, winters that make a warm car at the curb the whole point, a provincial government and a university that book the corporate black car all year, and the oil-sands traffic through the airport to Fort McMurray that never stops. Add Rogers Place and the Ice District that rebuilt the downtown around the Oilers, the Fringe and the Folk Festival that fill August, and West Edmonton Mall, and you have a city that books chauffeurs for its own reasons. We run the full service: the YEG transfers, the corporate accounts for the legislature and the industrial heartland, the hourly chauffeurs, the game nights and the city-to-city drives to Calgary and Jasper.

YEG, and how the pickup works
Edmonton International is in Leduc County, twenty-seven kilometres south of downtown - the furthest of any major Canadian airport from its city - and thirty minutes off-peak up the QE2 and Gateway Boulevard, forty-five in the evening rush. It is a single terminal with the domestic and international gates on one concourse, and the pre-arranged limousine curb is on the arrivals level, signed separately from the taxi rank and the ride-app zone. The chauffeur texts the curb and the plate before landing; meet and greet inside the hall is the add-on. The airport's site at flyeia.com publishes the layout; the YEG page has the full guide. Because the airport is far out and the winter is what it is, the chauffeurs keep the car running at the curb, which the airport permits at the pre-arranged area.
Downtown, the Ice District and the neighbourhoods
Downtown's Jasper Avenue and the Ice District around Rogers Place hold the hotels - the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, the JW Marriott - and the corporate towers; the legislature and its grounds sit above the river to the west; Old Strathcona and Whyte Avenue across the river are the restaurants and the Fringe; 124 Street and Glenora are the older neighbourhoods; the University of Alberta's campus is on the south bank. West Edmonton Mall in the west end books its own transfers, and the industrial heartland - Nisku and Leduc by the airport, Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan to the east, Acheson to the west - books the corporate account. St. Albert, Spruce Grove and Sherwood Park price on the same engine, and the Alberta page covers the province.
Rogers Place, Commonwealth and the venues
Rogers Place in the Ice District for the Oilers and the arena shows, with the district's hotels as the pre-arranged pickup; Commonwealth Stadium for the Elks and the stadium concerts; the Edmonton Convention Centre on the river bank and the Expo Centre at Northlands for the conferences; the Winspear and the Citadel for the arts; the Jubilee for the ballet and the touring shows. A playoff run at Rogers Place is the busiest fortnight of the chauffeur year, and the sporting events page explains why the cars are booked the day the schedule is announced.
The festival city
Edmonton calls itself the festival city and August proves it: the Fringe in Old Strathcona - the largest in North America - the Folk Festival in Gallagher Park, the Heritage Festival in Hawrelak Park, and K-Days at Northlands in July. Each closes streets and fills the neighbourhoods, and an hourly chauffeur is the way to do a festival day. The Grey Cup has come to Commonwealth more than once, and the holiday parties season at minus twenty-five is when the Sprinter at the restaurant door is worth every dollar.
Traffic, weather and the honest drive times
The QE2 and Gateway Boulevard from the airport, the Anthony Henday ring road around the city, the Whitemud across the south and the Yellowhead across the north: Edmonton's roads are wide and its rush hours are shorter than Toronto's, but the winter is longer than anyone's. From November to March the roads are snow-packed, the temperature can sit at minus thirty for a week, and a chauffeur with winter tyres, a block heater and the car already warm is the product. Alberta 511 is what dispatch reads. The honest figure: YEG to downtown in thirty minutes at 6 am and fifty at 5 pm, and longer in a ground blizzard on the QE2.
The corporate city
The provincial government and its departments, the University of Alberta and its hospital, the energy-services companies in Nisku and the heartland, the engineering firms, the health authority: Edmonton's corporate accounts book the YEG transfer, the hourly chauffeur for the site visit to Fort Saskatchewan or Acheson, and the city-to-city run to Calgary on the QE2 - three hours, one fixed fare, the weekly corridor for anyone who deals with the other city. One monthly invoice.
What a limo costs in Edmonton
Fixed by the addresses and the vehicle class, shown before you book. YEG to downtown in an Executive Sedan is the most common booking, and because the airport is far the fare reflects the distance rather than a flat rate that hides it; Calgary and Jasper are single fixed fares each way. No surge on a playoff night, no meter, no gratuity added. Hourly bookings carry a minimum shown when you choose the hourly option.
Jasper, the lakes and the corridor
Jasper is three hundred and sixty-five kilometres west on the Yellowhead, four hours, with the Parks Canada pass added at cost - the mountain trip for Edmonton the way Banff is for Calgary. Calgary is three hours south on the QE2; Red Deer halfway. Sylvan Lake and Elk Island for the summer day. All on the city-to-city service at a fixed fare with the return built in.
YEG arrival, worked through
A Monday 10 pm landing from Vancouver on Air Canada in January, one executive, one suitcase, minus twenty-eight at the curb. The Executive Sedan was booked on the corporate account with the flight number; the aircraft is ten minutes late and the chauffeur has been idling at the pre-arranged curb with the heater on since the descent began. The bag takes fifteen minutes; at 10:30 the executive walks out of the doors into a warm car and is on the QE2 north by 10:35, at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald downtown by 11:05. Thirty included minutes, one fixed fare, and no taxi rank at minus twenty-eight. The same night the app showed no cars at the airport for twenty minutes.
The industrial heartland and the site visit
Edmonton's economy is the province's government, the university and its hospital, and the energy-services industry that stretches from Nisku and Leduc beside the airport through Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan's refinery row to the north-east. The hourly chauffeur for a day of site visits across the heartland is the corporate booking the city is known for, and the city-to-city run to Fort McMurray is quoted by the desk for the traveller who would rather drive than fly. The Calgary corridor on the QE2 is the weekly run for anyone who deals with the other city.
Hotels and the drop-off
The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald above the river valley, the JW Marriott in the Ice District, the Westin and the Sutton Place downtown, the Matrix and the Metterra on Whyte Avenue, the Fantasyland Hotel inside West Edmonton Mall, the airport's Renaissance inside the terminal and the hotels along the airport road in Leduc: each forecourt is known, and the travel desk books the room.
The university, the hospital and the legislature
The University of Alberta's campus on the south bank and its hospital book the September move-in, the convocations at the Jubilee and the medical day; the legislature and its departments book the corporate account's session-week transfers; NAIT and MacEwan downtown book the graduation Sprinters. The prom and graduation page covers the June grad season, which in Edmonton fills the hotel ballrooms.
Edmonton in winter, and in summer
From November to March the city is snow-packed and the temperature can hold at minus thirty for a week; the chauffeurs run winter tyres and block heaters, the car is warm before you reach it, and dispatch reads Alberta 511 for the ground blizzards on the QE2. Then June arrives with seventeen hours of daylight, the festival season fills August, and the river valley - the largest urban parkland in the country - is the hourly chauffeur's summer day. Explore Edmonton's calendar has the dates.
Three questions Edmonton visitors ask the desk
Is the airport really that far? Yes - twenty-seven kilometres south in Leduc County - and the fare reflects the distance honestly rather than hiding it in a flat rate; the drive is thirty minutes off-peak and the car is warm. Can we get to West Edmonton Mall and back with the car waiting? Yes; that is an hourly booking, and the mall's Fantasyland Hotel is a drop-off the chauffeurs know. Do you drive to Jasper in winter? Yes, when the Yellowhead is open; dispatch reads Alberta 511 and the SUV runs winter tyres, and the Parks Canada pass is added at cost. Explore Edmonton's guide has the season's events.
The Oilers' playoff spring
When the Oilers go on a run in April and May the Ice District becomes the centre of the city for six weeks: the watch parties on the plaza, the road closures around Rogers Place from 5 pm, the restaurants full by 6, and every chauffeured car in the city booked by noon on a game day. The pre-arranged pickup is the district's hotel forecourts, texted before the third period ends; the fixed fare booked the day the schedule was announced is the fixed fare after a triple-overtime win, when the app is showing four times the number. The sporting events page covers the arrangement; the desk covers the dates.
Grad season and the ballrooms
Edmonton's high-school grad season fills the hotel ballrooms every weekend in June - the Westin, the Macdonald, the Shaw Conference Centre on the river - and the stretch limousines and Sprinters are booked by April. The prom and graduation page sets out the rules parents book us for; the desk has the Saturdays.
Edmonton: questions answered
